Silverton is the county seat and only community in San Juan County.

San Juan County Area:    248,320 acres and 95% is public lands.  Privately owned lands include the Town of Silverton, patented mining claims and a few subdivided areas near the Purgatory-Durango Ski Resort and the Eureka area.

San Juan Mountains:  12 of Colorado's 14,000 foot peaks are in the area.

Air Quality:  Continuing government studies are showing that some of the cleanest air in the continental U.S. is just outside of Silverton on Molas Pass.

Festivals & Events:     Avalanche School, A Theatre Group Productions, Brass Band Festival, Kendall Mtn. Run, Silverton Folk Music Festival, Quilt Show, Hardrock 100 Run, The Blair Street Arts and Crafts Festival, and Hardrocker's Holiday's to name a few.

Agriculture:    Silverton has the unique distinction of not having a single acre of agricultural land in the county.   Approximate growing season is 14 days.  Rhubarb is the main crop of many gardens in town.
